It all starts with colors

Colors
I’m not sure what I do most of the time. Most of my work habits (if any) seem pointless and go nowhere . When I start a painting I get motivated by the colors before I manage to find a decent subject to paint. Its almost like I’m just day dreaming then I say to myself “I want to paint something using purple paint” or I get a crazy idea to just use different blues (coming soon I swear.) I use this really cool Stay-Wet Palette, it has this sponge underneath the palette paper, it keeps everything moist and the paint don’t dry out, so one saves a lot in money and time.

I usually do a smaller version of the same painting first. Some say that doing this takes away from the whole painting in the moment  aspect of the art and makes it more mechanic.  but I just say “fuck that”. I like the idea of doing a practice run first, I have such a specific idea of how I want the end result to look like that its only smart to do a draft first to see where in my brush strokes I went away from what I originally wanted. The subject (um… yup … sorry) was a photo a girl (yes that kind of girl) send me on my cell phone a while back. Its a nice subject, no duh! But what attracted me to paint this painting was the bright colors the photo had. This is going to be part of a set, I have two portrait of the same person I’m going to do soon. The message is what ever you want it to be, I just like the colors, the shapes, I just like it!
